I Recently bought a Seagate 200 GB SATA HD. I am wanting to use the Serial HD as a backup meerly for storage, and continue to run Windows XP from my 40 GB Parallel Drive (Master). My mother board is only a few years old, and had no SATA Ports, I bought a Dual SATA HD Raid Card (PCI). The card, drivers and installation went smoothly. In "My Devices" The Card Itself, and The New Hard Drive are both shown to be "running properly" and are obviously recongnized by my computer. The drivers seem to have no problems. My problem is that when i click "my computer" It isn't listed along with my other HD "C:", floppy "A:" or DVD Drive "D:". I cannot save any information in my new SATA HD, nor can i open it to explore, as there is no icon to open it up. PLEASE HELP!

Is the HD partitioned and formatted?

No, I don't believe it is. It was brand new out of the box. The directions that came with it were very brief and said nothing about formating or partioning it. Plus, on top of that, i completely forgot how to part./form. a hard drive. Care to give me directions? keeping in mind, i only want this HD as a single backup storage area. NO O/S will be put on it. THANKS A BILLION!!!

You're welcome.

This link should help. Just make sure to partition and format the correct drive! Otherwise, you can wipe out your boot drive.

You could enter diskmgmt.msc in the run box and use the Windows Disk Management to create new partition(s) on the new drive. If you do that you will be able to visualise what you are doing and lessen the chance of mistakes. RClick on some unallocated space and choose to Create Partition; then follow the Wizard's instructions.

It Worked, Thanks Guys (Paul & Ski). By the way, how do you get those extra surnames (chicken-head eating geek) etc. haha. And what do the little device icons under that represent?

Edit your geekdom by going into your Control Panel (User CP towards the top of the page) and editing it there.

You get another icon after 2, 4, 8, 16, etc posts.
