Occasionally my USB mouse will stop responding (announced by a "bing-bong") then a couple of minutes later it'll resume ("bong-bing").

Anyone got any suggestions on how to stop this annoying trait?

I'm using Windows XP Pro with a MS Intellimouse Explorer - driver version 4.0

Cheers,

Ummmm, yeah, use a PS/2 mouse...it seems to be a common failing of USB that at times it will experience hangups, pauses and other little glitches, regardless of what else is happening with the OS. No not everyone experiences them all the time, but with my own experience with a USB modem....it just wasn't worth it, I switched the modem over to serial mode and have not had any problems with it.

The best thing to do is to start by checking to see if you are overloading your USB subsystem...do you have a lot of USb devices plugged in to the onboard ports?

They supply only a limited amount of power, which is fine for something like a mouse or keyboard, but higher power devices should be self powered or pluged into a powered hub.

Another to do is try to figure out if there is a certain action or sequence that leads to this behavior. Does clicking the reload button on your web browser trigger it and then the mouse resumes when the page is done loading...that kind of thing.

Look for any conflicting devices or errors in Device Manager....
