I'm running Windows XP and am trying to install proper drivers for my Voodoo 3 3000. When I go into system properties for the video card, and check the video cards device properties it reads:
This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12) If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system. You need to restart your computer before the changes you made to this device will take affect. Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
What does this mean and how can I fix this?

Hey Funkvibe,
Is there more then one display adaptor listed in DM?
I would recommend using the Troubleshooter the system is referring to.
Good luck http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif

If it's a PCI card, try it in another slot.
If no luck, remove the video card from Device Manager, restart the computer, install the drivers, and see if it gets assigned any resources in Dev. Mgr.
If that does not resolve the problem, double click on 'Computer' at the top of the Device Mgr. list, and see if any of the listed hardware components are not being used and can be disabled either in Dev. Mgr. or in BIOS to free an IRQ for possible use by the video card.
Ex 1.- If your serial ports are not being used and you use a cable modem, then you can disable COM1 & 2 in BIOS and free IRQ's 3 & 4. If you use a dial-up modem and it uses COM1 or 3, then disable COM2 in BIOS. If it uses COM2 or 4, disable COM1.
Ex. 2- If you do not have a game controller connected to your sound card or if a game controller is connected to a USB port, then disable any item associated with your sound card that has 'Game Device', 'Joystick', or 'Standard Gameport' in it in 'Sound, Video, and Game Controllers' in Dev. Mgr.

It's not a pci card, it's an agp card.
I also tried to disable a few things in the Dev. Mgr. but it still doesn't work. Could it be that the drivers just don't work with WinXP?
Are you trying to add "updated" drivers?
You can try uninstalling it and going back to the XP native drivers for it, I doubt that you will find any better than that.....or you just may have to relegate that card to a 98 machine and leave it at that, because it is very doubtful that there will be any new drivers for it.

Have you downloaded drivers for XP for the card? Although it doesn't sound like that's the problem.

Yeah, I tried installing many XP drivers for the card but nothing worked. But it doesn't sound like a driver problem. It says, as I listed in the first posting, about not having enough resources. It also says to disable other devices to free some resources. But what else can I disable without stopping my computer from malfunction?

When I was using Win98 I never had any problems with lack of system resources. Only when I installed WinXP did this problem arise. I never changed anything in the BIOS or hardware. Does this help?

3dFX was bought by nVidia so you should be able to download a set of Detonator drivers for your Voodoo card that are XP compatable.
I can't make up my mind whether XP is telling you that you have an IRQ issue or drivers issue. As I don't run XP.
The AGP slot shouldn't require an IRQ? Have you downloaded any AGP drivers or have they been XP provided?
What do you get when you run the troubleshooter?
Luck.

This is what is listed in the conflicting resources list:
Input/Output Range 03B0 - 03BB used by:
ALi PCI to AGP Controller
Input/Output Range 03C0 - 03DF used by:
ALi PCI to AGP Controller
Memory Range 000A0000 - 000BFFFF used by:
ALi PCI to AGP Controller
Maybe this gives a better idea what my problem is.

In device manager my video card is showing that it is in Location: PCI bus 1... Is the location of my AGP video card suppose to be shown at PCI bus 1? This can't be right...can it?
What exactly do you mean by "proper drivers"?
Have you tried using the native XP drivers?
What is it you want to accomplish with the driver install?

The Voodoo3 3000 is an older card and its drivers may not work with Win XP. Also, it may not be supported by the Win XP drivers.
Try to borrow a newer AGP card and see if it works.
