My CD-RW (on XP Home desktop) has been fine up until now, and I’ve burned and read burned disks successfully until recently. Now, the drive will not read any previously burned disk from my or any other computer, and it will not recognize/read a blank disk. It can read any manufactured disk, whether audio or software, just fine. However, any blank or burned disk results in windows explorer, My Computer or even the DOS prompt freezing up (not responding) until the CD is ejected. My DVD reader can read everything perfectly, so the disks are fine. Any ideas?
Make sure the drive's cables are secure.
If ok, then try a different known working IDE cable.
If no luck, then see if the drive works in another system.
If not, then it may be bad.
If it works ok in another system, then update your AV program, and remove any viruses.
Also, run Ad-aware, Spybot, and CWShredder to remove any spyware.
I have the same problem with the LTR52327S and nothing seems to help.It reads manufactured CDs and audio CDs fine , but none of the written CDs are being detected always; The drive reads then from time to time.
