The CD drawer in my compaq presario -5050 is stuck.
It is sticking out about 1 1/ 2 ibches and will not open or close.
Can anyone help me on how to fix this. I tried to remove the CD drive from the cabinet, but can 't figure out how.

Off-hand, I'd say your CD drive is dead! Time to get a new one and/or upgrade, IMHO. The other thing that's weird...

I tried to remove the CD drive from the cabinet, but can 't figure out how.This is common among OEM machines. Try going to HP's/Compaq's website and looking up your model number. You may in fact find documentation on opening up your specific case. In my experience, you have to remove both the side panel and the the front bezel to get at the 5 1/2" drives, but it may be different for your machine. If you want, I can look it up myself and give you some pointers.

Bottom line is that it's probably time to replace your CD drive!
