my husband computer is a HP only 3 years old, he replaced his old cd burner with a new one and had done a restore once. Now he needs to restore his computer again but it only takes you up to a certain level of restore. It takes you to the point on first disk of where it ask restore all or just restore components( not sure exact wording, sorry).... Do not know what to do.... Any help would be GREAT !!!!!! P.S. we are not computer smart so english would be great also http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif.
The one thing with HPs and restoring them you need to disconnect all added peripherals. One HP tech told me once that you need to return it to the original configuration and another told me you just have to unplug things like scanners and printers...I usually just make sure there is nothing plugged into the external ports and it runs fine.

Hello Terrie Girl,
when anyone takes a backup of the software on the hard-drive they take a copy or "snapshot" of the software "build" at that point in time and it is related in an important way to the hardware "build" at that point.
You see, a copy of the registry is included in the backup and that contains all the configuration settings etc. that tells the PC how to make use of the hardware and software. If you have changed the hardware since making the backup, then the registry which you restore will be innapropriate. They must work together and so they should be a perfectly matched pairing of hardware and configuration settings.
If you change the hardware you should make a new backup.
If you did not make a new backup you must restore the hardware so it does not include any not covered by the original backup.
You can then restore the backup, then change the hardware, then make a new backup.
