i have a AMD 64 3400+ gigibyte motherboard,it is about 2 months old and this morning i went to turn on the computer and when i hit the power button i get all the fans lighting up just for a split second and then nothing.
i have tried unplugging ,i have pulled the battery,i have taken all cards and memory out and still the same thing.
before today this has happened before and i would unplug the PC for about 1 minute plug it back in and it would then start!
today nothing is working and it just WONT^ start, ( GOSH THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING) i consider myself a medium computer tech ,but i am stumped and now know i SUCK at computers =(

thankls for any help in advance.......................Dan AKA sidestrike

The obvious cuplrit is the power supply. Try a new one and see what happens..... It could also be a defective on/off switch. Check the wires that run from the motherboard to the front of the case where the switch is and make sure they are firmly seated at both ends.

i am having a similar problem where everytime i shut down my pc i have to flick the psu switch off+on before i can start it again and my motherboard is 1 month old(gigabyte ga-k8ns ultra) and sometimes when running it will reboot itself no matter what i may be doing on my pc. now im worried i may be headed for the same problem as your having if i dont act soon.
goodluck

I also had same problem. I had actually switched my mobo to and ASUS A8N mobo. The problem with my gigabyte was the wires from the case to the motherboard (such as Resest SW, HD LED, etc) were placed wrong (nub me  ). I switched because I needed a strong overclocking mobo. Anyways, I wish you luck.

Good luck

OK ,it WAS the power supply (thankyou classicsoftware) NOW when i replaced the powersupply everything kicked on right away, BUT i feer i may of screwed something up before replacing the powersupply, now when the PC is running and i load a game (matrixonline) my videocard goes crazy and a bunch of artifacts start showing up and then it freezes completely!
i have changed the drivers and tried everything i know of to fix this to no avail, i put the gforce6800 gt into my older machine and it works GREAT
the only thing i changed on my machine was the MB bios..
any ideas as to why the card works in a AMD XP 3000 machine ,but wont work in my AMD 64 3400+ gigabyte K8 machine,it used to work before i had to change the powersupply.
once again any more help in advance ,THANKYOU...............Dan

How large of a power supply was in there and what did you replace it with?

I'm not an expert on video cards so this may seem foolish. Is this AGP or PCI? I assume it's AGP.

there was a 400 in it and i replaced it with a 600 (power supply) ,the card is a gforce 6800 GT AGP, i thought maybe the AGP prt may have fried but i put a gforce 4600TI in it and it ran just fine....

really has me stumped as to what it could be
