 when i turn my system on i have to select 1 of 2 xp os's to load(i have 2 hd's in a master slave setup on 1 ide cable. when i shut system down it wont power back up unless i reset the switch on the back on psu, and after system runs for an hour or so it will reboot on its own, when this occurs i lose all custom control comands in games but all driver, bios and hardware settings are uneffected. my antec 430w psu is fairly new and my motherboard is a gigabyte ga-k8ns ultra. case and cpu run at low temps, i have tried clearing cmos and updating bios. did not help. my total system specs are listed in my profile. also have reformatted and reinstalled os on both hd's. motherboard is less then a month old and cpu.
really cant figure this out. please any suggestions
thank you harvyne

 ok i posted a similar thread earlier with no response so i will try to make it a little more simple, i recently replaced my motherboard and cpu. since doing so when i turn my computer off i cant turn it back on without having to first shut off the switch from the power supply and then turning it back on, after that my pc will start up normally. also my system is detecting all my new motherboard specs but it detects the amount ram slots and installed ram from my old mobo(3x512mb sticks in 3 slots yet my new mobo has 4 ram slots with 2x512mb sticks) so its telling me i have 1.5 gig ram with total available dimm slots bieng 3. how is this possible, it detects my cpu properly(anthlon64 3200+) but is warning me the fsb exceeds mb chipset ratings, which it must be detecting my old mb's fsb, as i checked gigabytes website for cpu combatability.
my current system is
anthlon64 3200+
gigabyte ga-k8ns ultra mobo
2x512mb pc3200 corsair ram
2x80gig 7200rpm wd hd's
soundblaster audigy soundcard
sony cdrw
dell dvd/cdrw
my old setup was
anthlonxp 3000+ barton
gigabyte ga-7vax mobo
3x512mb pc2700 ram
everything else is the same
so far i have reformatted and reinstalled xp os, updated bios and all drivers, and cleared cmos, all with no good results,
any advice or suggestions would be really helpfull thanks

It would certainly appear that something must be awry with the power supply since you've replaced the motherboard.
Perhaps first, I would check to make sure that your Power and Reset case connections are not in a reversed role.
It's always difficult to troubleshoot something with multiple variables. My suggestion would be to get down to the basics and work from there. I would strip the system down to a barebones situation (i.e., Motherboard, RAM, Video card, keyboard, and monitor) and remove the motherboard from the case. Place it on a non conductive surface.
If the problem persists I would disconnect the Power lead from the case and use a screwdriver to make momentary contact with the two pins involved.
Please let us know how things go...
It is possible that your power management settings in bios are wrong.

this is to update my two previous threads on this issue
i figured out that the case to motherboard connectors was the issue. in my particular situation my case does not have a power lead connector, instead it has a msg connector which i assume acts as both so after some trial and error connecting i found the proper assignment and my power issue was fixed.
also after kicking myself in the but several times i noticed that my mobo (gigabyte ga-k8ns ultra) has a 12v atx connector which i failed to see during install (my older gigabyte ga-7vax did not have one) so i had'nt connected it to my power supply. i thought they did away with those. now that it has been connected i dont notice any difference in system performance. i hope i hadnt damaged anything from that not bieng connected. anyway thanks for responding with your suggestions. you all have very good suggestions and advice.

I merged everything together so it's all in one place, I suppose nobody spotted the duplicate post, we usually get notices about that, but I didn't check my email last night so I wouldn't have known anyway...
If you need to post another question in the future, please try to keep all information related to that question in one thread so we don't get confused searching for what you have posted and what others have already suggested, and you only have to look in one place for replies. That works out better for everyone.
