If you know who made your modem, you might be able to find new drivers for it that will work under win2000...check the drivers link at the bottom of my post...

When all else fails, read the instructions.

The drivers with the *.ex_ type extension are renamed by the installiton program to the standard formats. So what the installation file was looking for is the original files, so you may be able to "trick" the install program into finding them if you make a list of the ones it asks for, copy them to a folder, and then rename them accordingly, and then point the installer to that folder when asked where they are...no this is not the best way to do it but it will work if you are stuck and unable to find the correct driver download.

You need to go to Tools, Folder Options, View and uncheck the box that says "Hide extensions for known file types"

After you do this, it will show you the file extension and let you change it when you right click and select rename...

In any event, there's no guarantee that WinXP drivers will work under 2000, you may need to find actual Win2000 drivers for the modem...

Right clicking on the file should bring up a rename option in the context menu.....
