i have an amd 1.7 and just 4 days ago it locked up and it hasnt been running since, the hd light wouldnt go out and it stayed on constantly. i dont know if the md, cpu and hd are gone bac. i took my hd out and put it in a fine working computer and it hung up, then i took a fine working hd and put it in my computer and it hung up, i really believe i have fried my components the reason i say this is because i didnt plug the fan up that was attached to the case, u had a fan on the cpu i cant remember now if i had a fan on the pwer supply. i reformatted 3 or 4 times still no luck. i then put hd into a pII 450 system and it was beginning to install winddows then it did a ms registry checker a bunch of time and it found a bunch of errors so im now trying to narrow the problem down so i wont have to spend unneccessary money, any suggestions please
Ahhhh, the fun one has when building their own computer.
I'm not making light of your situation, just a joking comment indicating that I've "been there, done that".
When you start it, do you hear any beeps, see anything on the monitor, do the fans run, lights come on?

no beeps, nothing on the monitor, sometimes i get halfway into installing win 98, and it locks up, then it goes to a screen where it check the registry and it finds errors and it does this a couple of times, and it says it fixes the errors. im trying to narrow it down to the hd but i want to make sure before i go out and buy these components. thanks for replying

The hard drive is a good place to start. Get the name of the hard drive and go to their web site and download their drive tools and check your hard drive. After that remove all cards except vidio and boot up and try. Post back with results.

i think u better get ur harddisk to scan for virus first lolz http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
then regarding to ur component u have to test it part by part on ur frenz/neighbour pc whether it is function or not. it hung maybe of the hardware defectiveness..
