My CPU is an AMD Athlon 1.3GHz

What is the normal, average running temperature for CPU?

Mine is currently 48 Deg C \118 Deg F

Is this within normal limits?

Thank you

Is that temp under full load or idle ?
48C is a safe temp for the AMD cpu.

Also what are you using to obtain that temp?
Double check it using the hardware monitor in the bios for accuracy .
An easy way to do this run the system till it is heated to its top temp. run programs or a cpu bench mark utility ,

Then use the shutdown /reboot option in the start menu.
Use Restart and when the system boot screens comes up Enter the bios and go directly to the hardware monitor and check the temps for the cpu.

It should be within a few degrees of the temp your program showed.

In a few programs an adjustment to the probe program is needed. + or - x degrees

Thanks Rick

Used SiSoft Sandra after power-up and disabling all
background Progs.

Will check in BIOS as you suggest

Just checking things before installing XP!

Hey thingy...... I like that. thingy.

Sandra is famous for being inaccurate. As Rick
mentioned see if you can grab the CPU temperature out
of System Health in BIOS.

AMD maintains that the Athlon core chips can handle 72C
degrees and less. And the Morgan core chips can handle
90C degrees. Then it's Meltdown.

Before I switched to the Morgan core XP's I had a 1.4 Athlon
that ran 52C degrees constantly, just to aggravate me.

Luck.

Variable,

F = (C x 1.8) + 32

C = (F - 32)/1.8
