Aloha folks. I need a little help with this one ;)

System specs and configurations:
System 1- Ibuiltit desktop, AMD Sempron, 512, XP Pro, Linksys wireless card to Linksys WAP.
System 2- Compaq Presario laptop. PIII 650, 256, XP Pro, Linksys PCMCIA card to Linsys WAP
System 3- Ibuiltit, Celeron 750, 384, XP Pro, 10/100 ethernet card to Linksys WAP.
Printer 1, HP 5500 series AIO, connected to system 1, shared
Printer 2, HP 7300 series Photo printer, connected to system 3, shared.
All systems running AVG and Zonealarm, regularly updated. SP1

Problem;
This whole layout worked flawlessly for over a month after I first got the whole network thing working (file sharing, printers,...) but now I keep loosing printing on printer 1. If I send a doc to print on this printer, it holds in queue indefinitely, even when printing from system 1. I have no problems printing to printer 2.
I have other issues with system 1 that I have yet to find time to work on and they may well be related. These include lost sound and CD-RW. Everything shows up in the appropriate places with no issues listed, but they just don't work. Removal and reinstall seems to do the trick for all of this, temporarily. I will try to get to this today I hope  :D If this issue sounds familiar to anyone, please present me with any suggestions ;)

Thanks
Frank

If you stop and restart the Print Spooler service I suspect you will get the same return to temporary functionality, albeit more quickly than reinstalling the device, but as far as cause...

Are you powering off the PC connected to printer 1? This can cause problems with shared printers, but the spooler restart should fix it.

Thanks hiredgoonz ;)

Good to see you back around :D
I have yet to find the time to really test this. I do believe it happens when system one gets shut down, which is rare. System 3 gets shut down regularly and I have yet to loose printer 2, but I know that does not define the norm for system one. I am starting to realize I have other stability issues with this machine. Problem is, I don't get to use it enough to better see these issues coming. It's a juke box more then a computer
I will try the spool service trick if it happens again.

Thanks again
Frank

No problem...I have the same issue whenever my ftp/file/print server machine is restarted, but since it only takes a few seconds to restart the service (and the machine is rebooted maybe twice a year), I haven't looked any further...
