First thing I would look for is to check to see if your hard drive ribbon cables and power plugs are seated properly. If you can't tell just by looking at them, unplug them and plug them back in again (ensuring the red stripe is at pin 1).

Welcome to the PC Guide,

I see Major Madness has beaten me to it.

If his suggestion doesn't work there is a good chance that the hard disk has become corrupted somehow since the error message has cropped up in an existing system.
Do a search under "Bad Corruption" in this PCGuide. Good luck.

Also see if you can boot up to a boot disk...write protect the disk first (by moving the little tab so the hole is exposed), if you can then try to boot to and run an antivirus emergency disk....

Dholley2,

It's possible that your system files are corrupted.
Insert the Windows boot floppy, start up, select "Start Windows Without CD-ROM Support', press Enter, type sys c: at the A:\> prompt, press Enter, remove the boot floppy after it says that the system files have been transferred, restart.
