Good day!
my PC hangs when im trying to connect to the internet using dial-up. before this 'verifying username and password' message comes, im in a total mess up cause the PC goes in a sudden stop. the mouse is not moving capslock wont lit and i end up restarting the PC.
what will be the possible cause of this? i seldomly get this prob and most of the time my PC work just fine.
Thank you. more power to PCGUIDE!

It sounds like an IRQ conflict. Go to Device Manager and look for the modem. Check out the resources tab to see if there are any conflicts. You may have to change the IRQ or comm port for your modem.

You might want to try going into device manager and removing the modem, then rebooting and letting the system reinstall. Then recreate your dial-up connection.

If you build it, they will come.

Bogart: Please be patient, these people answer a question and move on to the next one, sometimes the same person may not get back to your question until the next night.
I understand your frustration, but we have a LOT of questions to deal with here and it takes time. Hang tight, be patient and the people already dealing with it will be back again, but it might take a while...check back from time to time and someone else may pop in with an idea too.

im sorry sir.
i do undestand your point and what i did is not right. that will not happen again.
i owe this website a lot for it gives me in depth knowledge about computers. i seldomly use the net though and when im into it, i see to it that evry seconds counts. to surf only on the site that answer what i need thats why when im on this site and i raised a couple of question, with enthusiasm and joy, i only wish that those raised questions have been answered. but i dropped the idea that this forum is not only for one person who need answer but for millions who are in doubts.
again im sorry.

means you have the modem assigned to the wrong port.
had you tried, Major madness- reply- You might want to try going into device manager and removing the modem, then rebooting and letting the system reinstall. Then recreate your dial-up connection.
, but done it from SAFE mode??
doing it from safe mode will remove any possible "ghost" drivers that tend to remain sometimes.
btw- I am not iisbob.. hehe
maybe in about 10 years I will know about half of what he forgot already.....
