Just built my own custom pc with an
AMD 3000 64bit processor
Geforce 5700fl 256ram agp graphics card
THIS http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813123219 motherboard
200 gb hard drive
1 gig ram
and this case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=11-147-001&catalog=23&manufactory=BROWSE
The problem is that when I turn it on, the fans and hard drive will start but after 1 second the computer will just shut down.
HELP!!!

Have you checked to see if the heatsink (CPU FAN) is correctly seated? If it is not then it could be shutting down due to overheating. The fans will start but if not seated correctly the the cpu will overheat.

Hello there. I have a home based Travel business and I need a reliable PC in order for it to work. So, when my PC took a turn for the worse it turned out to be something small, THE POWERSWITCH of all things :)

That's a classic example of a ground problem. Something is touching the chassis that shouldn't.

To test and prove this, remove the board and power it up on a tabletop with only CPU/heatsink, RAM. video and keyboard. A small screwdriver should work to short the jumper to power up. If you get a picture, unplug it, you just proved it was shorted on the chassis.

Get some cardboard washers from a computer shop and put them on each screw hodling the motherboard onto the chassis. That will usually fix this problem, although I have seen a couple that made me put them under the motherboard, which is not fun...

I once plugged a USB cable into the socket the wrong way round and CLICK. the PC switched off. :(
I wouldn't have thought it was possible to put a USB plug in the wrong way round, but it was possible, and I succeeded in doing it.
Now imagine if someone did that BEFORE switching on the PC.
What would happen when they switched on?

Well, I figured out the problem... my power supply doesn't like my graphics card. I tested the computer without the graphics card and it turned on and stayed on and when I used a friend of mines power supply on it, it booted fine. Guess I gotta get a new power supply now :(. Thanks anyways.
