I have a compaq A3000 Printer/Scanner/Copier. It will print color but no black. I have refilled the black cartridge but it still won't print. Any ideas

Do you have any program supplied with the printer for cleaning/charging the print head jets?
Are the jets part of the cartridge or part of the printer?
If part of the cartridge, is the cartridge properly seated?

I tried aligning the print cartridge, cleaning it, printing a test page but nothing worked I still could not print black. So I bought a new black cartridge and it prints. I guess the other one was ruined? I had refilled it a few times but this time it wouldn't work.

Thanks for replying. I am keeping the one that wouldn't work in case someone can tell me what to do to make it work.

There's a shop near me where the customer hands in his old cartridge and they give a refilled one.
When I bought one of those [black with print heads] and it wouldn't print, they sent a guy out to my house [5 miles travel], and he made it work.
There must be a knack to fitting it just right.
It seemed easy enough to me, and I thought I'd fitted it right, but no, when I fitted it, it didn't work; when he fitted it, it did.

One thing I tried was to soak the print heads on the cartridge in solvent.
Then I flushed out a cartridge and filled it with solvent and printed with that.
Made a "document" with a solid rectangle of black to print; that certainly gets plenty of throughput unless the heads are blocked.

I appreciate your comments. I wish I could find a little shop like the one you mentioned. I boiled this cartridge once and it worked for a while but now it is not working again. I may try the solvent trick you suggested. What kind of solvent? The one that is called cleaner in the kit I bought?

WHOA! You BOILED a cartridge?

Now I've heard it all!

Here's the "Universal Cartridge Flush - Print Head Cleaner" I use http://www.jrinkjet.co.uk/index.php?page_id=112
