Does anyone know why my brand new Nero 6.6 requires me to use CD-R/RW and will not let me use my CD-Rs to burn anything? Should I have bought some cheap software instead of this $100 stuff? Thanks for any ideas to solve this problem. Tom

Sorry, I initially put this in the wrong forum. Anyway, does anyone know why my brand new Nero 6.6 requires me to use CD-R/RW and will not let me use my CD-Rs to burn anything? Should I have bought some cheap software instead of this $100 stuff? Thanks for any ideas to solve this problem. Tom

I merged your two threads together...
As for your question, whenever there is a problem with burning CDs, I suspect Cdilla since it is designed to make it more difficult as a copy protection thing... It is installed on your computer by a number of different programs.... However, the info you have posted is not entirely consistent with the kind of problems it usually causes... I suggest you post more detail about the problem to get help...

Not sure I follow; I would have though that CD-Rs fell into the CD-R/RW bracket. In other words you should be able to burn sessions/audio/etc to CD-R or CD-RW. CD-RW would be mandatory (with Nero) for packet writing using InCD but CD-Rs should be OK for just about any other format.
What specific messages is Nero generating and after doing just exactly what?

Paul, Here is the log, if it is something someone can look at and find the problem. Also, I got this message after trying to burn on a brand new Sony CD-RW, so the burner treated the new cd just like my old ones. Any idea what is wrong? Also, when I go to disc info, it did not appear to realize there is a disc inserted. Please help. Thanks. Tom

The media was obviously detected at the start but after the unsuccessful burn it had apparently disappeared. Presumably when you now insert this disk (with Nero turned off) Windows Explorer comes up with a similar message when you try to read the CD.
I once saw this with a whole batch of Dysan CDRWs (well 4 out of 5 of them) so my first thought is a bad batch of disks. I would try with a different maker's CDRs (which seem generally to be more consistent) and/or by forcing a slower write speed.
If the CDRW disk has become truly bad you will not even be able to erase it back to its original state.

Thanks everyone for the input. My problem with the Nero 6.6 was solved by updating the firmware on the burner (a Mad Dog 4 in 1 52x MD-5216CDR). I went to www.mdmm.com/support/docs/FW_Upgrade_Guide.pdf , which gave me a download to erase the old burner info and re-flash the burner. Thanks again for the assistance. I had never even heard the term firmware before these problems. Have a great day. Tom

Thanks tom - useful to know that flashing the firmware did the trick.
