""operating system not found""
If that happened to me I'd restore a backup image file for the C: partition.
If that fixed it I'd wonder what was messing with my software and keep my wits about me to spot the culprit; if it didn't fix it I'd think the hardware was suspect and try to find the cause there.

"if OS not boots, how can u restore a partition ?"
I have 3 methods I can use to do that, none of which require me to boot into an existing Windows installation:
1. Boot from the "Emergency Boot CD" [EBCD][bootable CD-RW disk] and run the "Image" program to restore a backup from an image file held on my G: [FAT32] partition.
2. Boot the "HP Simple Backup" prog from my "Hewlett Packard Disaster Recovery [floppy] Diskette", and restore a backup held on CD-RW disks.
3. Reformat C;, reinstall Windows, boot into Windows, then restore a "MS Backup" from an external USB HDD. [not the best of methods]
