HELP!
I recently bought my pc off a fellow I worked with, who had increased the speed of the CPU fan because he used the PC for gaming. However...I do not, and have to turn my TV right up whilst the PC is on as it is REALLY noisy. How do I turn the RPM down? I went into BIOS and it told me it is at 5300RPM-ish, but I can't change the value there. I really hope I don't have to start going inside the pc to do it!!!! Please help!

Welcome to PCGuide. Sorry to tell you this, but you or someone you trust is almost guaranteed to have to go inside the machine. Usually those fans come with a few control options: full on all the time, controlled by a temperature sensor, adjustable with a small potentiometer.. commonly referred to as a knob, or dohickey ;)

A gamer with a fan turning at that kind of RPM most likely got the nice one, and it sure doesn't sound as if its controlled by heat. Here's the cpu cooler that I got, and its not even all that awesome: http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/volcano/rs/a1365.htm

You can see how simple it is to plug in the control knob though. Its possible your coworker installed one and just cranked it up, ask him. If he didn't, I am actually hard pressed to think of an easier mod for your computer that doesn't involve a usb device. Maybe its a good place for you to get comfortable doing some work in there.

Good luck either way, those suckers can get awfully loud.
