I just viewed a posting from someone who has a similar problem to mine. I have had my sound and everything working fine on my pc for over a year now. I have 4q model c3s speakers. About 2 weeks ago I lost all my sounds. I am not a techie by far so any help would be appreciated. I've tried everything that I can think of and really it's driving me crazy. HELP. I need my sounds to work because I have about 4 presentations that I have to review for my job (no sounds + no presntation = no job) :(

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif!!!

Need more details of your system and what you have tried so far.

Operating system, motherboard, soundcard or onboard.

In the run box, type dxdiag and do the sound tests in there.

Do you here any buzzing if you touch the end of the cord that goes to the speakers? Is volume muted on the speakers? in Volume Controls? Is there any problems in Device Manager?

Try your speakers in the front headphone out jack on your cd-rom or a portable device.

Post your progress.

I have removed the plug from the speakers (usb, 2.5 mm) and when I touched it it make some noises like light static. When I tried to check if the volume is mute or turned down and and it states that the mixer driver in not available and I have no volume controls access. The device manager states that all sound devices are working properly. I have plugged the speaker in the front usb port and still nothiing happens. Recently (about 1 month ago) , it cuts off at random (the entire computer) and changes my memory read out at start up from 266 mhz to 200mhz and then I have to load optimized setting for it to return normal. I was told by a friend that since no virures were detected that it may be a hardware issue. I am not sure but I do not think that is it because all my hardware is has been installed for no less than 9 months. I hope this give you a little light on my issue.

Your system description and needed job softwares does nothing to help me help you. I want to know if you have onboard sound or not and what it is.

You say you connect with the usb ports???? Are you sure it's not the more normal 1/8 inch mini stereo jacks and plugs?
This (1/8")

or this (usb)

If they are usb speakers, do you have SP2 for XP installed because that is what installs the usb-2 drivers.

Did you try dxdiag?

Did you or can you try your speakers with a portable device such as an iPod, a Walkman or cassette deck through the headphone out with adapter, etc.

Did you try headphones in your speaker out jack with the volume turned down low so as not to damage the headphones?

You may be able to go to Add/Remove and uninstall the drivers for your souncard, reboot and reinstall them. But I don't know if it will do any good.

Have you gone into Control Panel/Sound and Audio/Sound and Audio Devices to check and see if the sound has been muted. It is not unkown for windows to do wee things like this.

More so if you play tracks from any Rap type of band/group/so called singer on your computer.

vnd1977- you should do as Fruss Tray Ted asked. I found him to be very noligable in the "multimedia" area.
