I have a somewhat stange annoyance: when I start up this HP Pavilion 820i all that happens is a splash with no explanation of why it should not be proceeding normally. To continue booting I press F1, but the users guide says that that should get me into a Bios Setup Utillity. Can someone explain to me what could have happened?

hello
try going into safe mode.click f5 or f8 on start up.
than run your virus scan.and look in saerch files and folders for files starting with wink these are the klez virus files.try restarting from safe mode to normal.and if you can do an on line scan at house call anti virus.its free

resistance is invigorateing lol
Can you get into the BIOS setup at all (like trying to hit f1 within a couple of seconds of powering on)?
If so go to the boot page and enable the boot diagnostic screen, that will get rid of the splash screen and maybe show you where it is hanging.......
