Ok on my old computer I had an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ on a Matsonic MS8137C+...well that is what I thought it was. That is what it said it was on Boot.
Now I have changed the motherboard to a Gigabyte 7VT600P-RZ(-C)
On boot it says that an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ is plugged in. Why....and how. Is it a bios setting and which motherboard got it wrong. Is there a way to properly find out what it is (bought it from a shop and can't find out from them).
Any help would be great. Thanks very much

Can't you look onto the Athlon chip? Isn't there a label?

Well who would have thought it...I do have an XP 2400....*whistles* wow did not know that.
So why did my old mobo think it was an 1800+?
Thanx very much

You must have had your timings set too low or to default. Possibly you set your clock to 100mhz if you were using pc-100 ram and you should have set it to 133 so the processor was affected and not the memory. There should be 2 places to set, one for memory and the other for the processor.

Ooh thank you very much. It was a shop bought PC so you would have thought that they would get it right.
Well I'm glad we have that sorted. Now if I can just get an operating system on it we shall be in business so to speak.
Thanx again for your help

Yeh tis..... I know alot of people who say they are crooked and that you should never buy from them. It is ok because I build my own systems now.
Thanx again
