My problem is very unusual and i have noticed it in two games that i have played, these being counter strike source and far cry and what is happening is that the games are running slightly slower even though the aiming of the crosshairs etc are normal. The games run with a high frame rate ( on counter strike w/ high detail and resolution @ 1280x1024 its giving 109 fps) so it's not computer potential, as well as the fact that they used to work fine- it suddenly started a couple of days ago. It's not the internet connection because if i disconnect the internet i still experience the same problems. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

System info -

You're getting 109 FPS and complaining? I have a P4 640, 2GB DDR2675/PC6400 RAM, a 6800GT PCIe, on an Asus P5AD2-E Premium w/925XE and I don't get those numbers.

Anyway-- I kill almost everything when I run games like those--FarCry, SHIII, and LOMAC, in my case. That means I'm offline with no AV, no active antispyware, no extraneous background processes, just what the box needs to run. If you didn't shut it down, I would suspect Norton in your case. Any AV/Security suite can cause issues with these games--Norton is the worst at it.

Killing apps and process before gaming is a pain, but ya gotta do to experience it at its best.

Edit: WHAT ARE YOU DOING USING IE6????????????

Yer i get those figures.... but it's in slow motion!!! i've tried killing every other program on the computer and that didn't work so i did a complete re-format and installation of windows, installed the bare minimum needed to get counter strike going, and still it was in slow mo. What i don't understand is that it never used to do it... could it be the cpu of the graphics card? and what web browser do u suggest? i had firefox, but i didn't like it much

If the system "thinks" it's giving you 109FPS and it isn't, there's a bottleneck somewhere then and I'm not savy enough to explain it. Maybe Saphalline can. Is it possible for the monitor to do this? Like maybe the response time when to hell--I have no idea. Try a different monitor if you can. Just a stab in the dark...

I've never touched the autodetect in FarCry, didn't even look for it. I went with defaults and tweeked up a few like the AA and Isotrpoic.

Has anything changed recently in your system? Have you done a spyware/adware scan? Geez, it could be any number of things. Slow-mo in the game, though... that's confusing... And nothing else is slowing down, correct? What other games do you have that work fine?

As of right now, I'd say it's a game-related problem. Obviously your system is keeping up just fine, but for some reason the game is running in slow-mo. Patches? Settings in the menu? Have you checked the video settings menu options for more than one 3D adapter being listed? Stranger things have happened...

I very much doubt this will help you in the slightest, but there used to be a trick for Unreal GOTY on a laptop when it didn't run correctly. At the end of the shortcut, you just added -cpuspeed=x where x is obviously, your cpuspeed...So for instance, C:\Unreal Tournament\Unreal.exe -cpuspeed=2800 and this would make sure the game ran at the correct speed.

Don't know if it's worth a shot? It might, just might, work!
