Hello,
Can any body please help me.
I have a Dell latitude c400 laptop and it has a removable external dvd drive. It used to work fine. One Day I brought a USB2.0 DVD writer and burned a cd. After that my laptop has stopped detecting the dirve.
In device Manager I see a yellow sign with exclamation against
TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD C-2612. On clicking the properties I get the following message
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

I have gone to Dell site and tried downloading the driver but on installing the driver it asks me to first connect the DVD/drive . SO I am back to square one .

Can somebody please help how can I fix this so that my laptop can start detecting the dvd drive.

It also stopped dectecting the USB burner.

Would be of great help if some body can please guide me.

Thanks very much in advance.

"it has a removable external dvd drive"
Connected how? I'll call this DVD1.

"brought a USB2.0 DVD writer and burned a cd"
Did you already have USB2.0 installed? Did you need to install any drivers to make the DVD Writer work? I'll call this DVD2.

"In device Manager I see a yellow sign with exclamation against
TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD C-2612."
Is this DVD1 or DVD2?
Is this listed under "Other Devices" [unable to identify the type of device], or under the Primary or Secondary IDE controller?
In Device Manager, click "View Devices by connection", then click on Computer, then hit "Numlock *" to expand the hardware tree.
