I'm getting message on my HP pavilion 8500 w/ windows xp pro when I try to put the comp in sleep mode that sais the driver for the ATI rage pro agp 2x video card is preventing the computer from enterign sleep mode. I went to the agp home page and downloaded the driver for the card that is compatible w/ xp (they only offered 1 driver for the card, and it was cerca 2002, if I remember correctly). Does anyone know of an update for this card and wehre to get it, or some otehr way to fix this problem? Thanks

I am not well-versed on what you are writing but why not take a look at your device manager for, if any, what has been your problem ? Driver problems sometimes get reported by warning or disabled icons in there. If you already have your computer connected to the Internet, just right-click your mouse on them and update your drivers.
If no signs are there for you to handle it, besure you also have your back-up or application CDs included, which might help you re-install.
Yeah, something still unsolvable, ask mumber, yor ok!

mumber,
If you have help for someone you are welcome to post. If you just want to post comments "just because" this forum board is not for you.

Reinstalling is a last resort only around here. We like to fix it instead. Please don't recommend reinstalling unless we've tried everything else we can think of already.
To know anything about drivers for your video card we would need to know the specific model of the card. If it has a number attached to the Rage Pro part, or is a Rage Pro II we need to know that. If nothing is available on the ATi site, nothing newer is likely to be available at all. I would try to completely uninstall the card and reboot. Windows will recognize the card on reboot and either install native drivers or the ones that were just uninstalled, or ask for user input to locate drivers.
Also check the HP site for drivers, and check for information there too, your model may have a known problem with sleep mode. Their FAQ or forums, if they exist, would have a good idea how to deal with it since they've seen it a lot if it's a known problem common to that model.
Sleep/suspend/hibernate have alwas been flaky so I would leave them alone. Set power management to turn off the monitor after 10-20 minutes, turn off hard drive(s) after 1-2 hours if you wish, and leave it at that. Suspend /sleep and hibernate have had a reputation for locking up ever since Windows 95 was around. I always disable suspend and hibernate altogether. When I first got my laptop, used, it was giving me an error message that it had failed to return from Hibernate every time I let APM turn off the monitor, after a half dozen forced reboots I disabled Hibernate completely. It worked perfect after that even with ME on it...never had a minutes' trouble out of it.

As Pete said you will have to find out exactly what card you have.
Try the following links for help
http://www.computerhope.com/help/vati.htm
Use this small ATI pogram and will identify the card for you
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/ati-util-jan-2004.exe
Then you should be able to find your drivers here
