I recently bought a new pc at a local store..i had the pc assembled there. After that, I went home and installed WinXP professional and the drivers for the motherboard and video card..however, there was a problem. After i installed the driver for the video card(Inno3D GF4 MX440 128ddr tv-out 8x 128bit), after restarting, suddenly, my cd-rom is unable to read cds anymore. Weird thing is the cd-rom drive can still be detected by the motherboard. Even in xp, the cd-rom drive is still on display but when i put cds into it, it can no longer read them. How will i fix this? Thanks for anyone who's willing to help..

Welcome to thehttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!
I'm curious why you didn't have the shop that assembled your computer also load the Operating System and make sure everything was hunky dory?
I would have them take a look at things before you potentially void any warranty they might have on your purchase...

Go here www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/upgrading/advisor.mspx and download & run the XP Upgrade Advisor to see what it reports.

Could be a loose cable or order of driver installation problem. Or it could be something else. In any case, we need more info. System specs, exactly what happened & when, etc.

Whyzman: because i bought the pc by parts and the os/software is not included in the deal..also, i used my current cd rom drive for the new pc. i didnt buy a new one..
SylvandeR: thanks! :)
saphalline: I installed xp pro then driver for motherboard then the vidcard driver. After restarting, cd-rom can still be detected by the motherboard but it can't read cds anymore. So i formatted everything again and the same thing happened after installing the vidcard..:(
