I was using my computer one minute then it froze and I proceeded to restart it like always. Then when I did turn it on nothing came up on my monitor and it's been like that for 2 days now. I tested out my monitor with my other computer and it's working fine. I tried the beeps thing but I don't hear any beeping, actually I do but it doesn't go beep beep beep, it's just a beep... then everything would usually start running. But right now there's the same beep and nothing on the screen. What could the problem be? And when I feel my system case it feels less power because it usually goes beep then brooom and you can feel it if you put your hand there. Now when I touch it and put my hand it feels more calm and less noise as usual. That's about as much as I could describe because it's all I can say, I don't think I'm missing any other specific thing. Alright, I hope someone can help. Thanks.

Not sure if this is going to help you or not, but i had the same problems with a computer a relative of mine was using, which i now have. Now i am going to tell you what i did as this is a strange one http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Found the original HDD had died so i put in a old 1 gig i had lying around, it fixed it i thought, it only fixed it temp, for about a week and it did it again, so i thought maybe the lead is bad to the drive, so i changed the lead, only to find it fixed it, to have it do it again a few days later. I was getting a little anoyyed by now http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif so i brought a new battery for the m/board, nah didnt fix it, put in a different video card, didnt fix it, ready for it http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif pulled out the cpu, its a slot 1 pII 233, and put it back in, that was over a week ago now and it hasnt shown any sign of wanting to play up.

My suggestion, try all the above, the battery cost bugger all, the reseating of the components costs zero http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif, pull all the cards out minus the Video card, if it fixes itself then put each card back in one at time until either A: it doesnt bootup properly like it has been doing , or B: it boots up and continues to run nice

Hello JX3e

I'm using Diagnostic Flowcharts.

STARTUP
1. Is the PC "dead"?
No it is not because because you get a single beep from the internal speaker. But are their other signs like lights and the fan running?
2. So the PC is not dead and the POST [Power-on Self Test] ran and you heard the single beep at the end of POST.
3. But the Monitor display is not correct so this is a Display problem.

DISPLAY
1. The Monitor is functional but here is no display and:
A. if the screen is dark, not lit, you have a faulty mains lead.
B. if the screen is lit/bright you either have a faulty signal lead or video adaptor or faulty system board.

A continuous beep usually means a bad motherboard, memory, or video card.
Make sure the memory and the video card are fully inserted.
If they're ok, then either swap out the suspected items or have them tested to determine which one is bad.
