hi all,
I've got an optical mouse that is beginning to get a bit shaky when scrolling from side to side.
Any tips on addressing this prob or is it time to get a new one?
thanks

Depends on how much yopu paid for it. If it's the $10.00 model, get a new one and don'y play around with it

Is that an optical & WIRELESS mouse?
Are the batteries running low on charge?
Mine only last a couple of weeks, so I've got to use rechargeables.
When the batteries begin to run low, all kinds of strange things begin to happen.
I wish there was an audible warning of low charge.

it's an optical, wired mouse. I think it cost about $60

what I mean is, is there some way to tweak an optical mouse (just like blowing the dust out of the old roller ball ones) or once it begins to go is there not much that can be done?

Beats me. :(
I thought the whole point with an optical mouse is that it doesn't have the roller/ball setup to go wrong.
What can go wrong with a light beam?
The connections/cables?
The drivers?

Is this mouse running through a PS2 Adapter? I would shut down, remove the adapter and then try directly with the USB connection if possible.
Clean the cavity for the optics with a cotton swab, get all the fuzzy stuff out of the cavity.
Try using the mouse on a simple sheet of paper to see if it is surface related.

If it is PS2, shut the system down remove the mouse and clean the port with canned air. Re-insert re-boot and try again. Aldo try the other suggestions listed.
