Every once in a while my computer will just turn off for no apparent reason then immediately reboots itself. It doesn't do it very often but once i saw a red X box (pretty sure that isnt the technical term) for a split second then it turned off. I recently got a cyber power UPS and i think thats about the time it started happening. i also installed a cd burner a few weeks ago (with help from yall). I have Win XP with all the updates installed and a P4 1.8ghz, TDK velocd burner, cyberpower 375sl UPS. Also, i havent updated my systems BIOS because frankly im kinda scared to. Thanks any help is appreciated!

Random reboots are most often involve heat, PSU, or RAM. Do you have any temperature monitoring on your system?

No, i tried to get one a while back but i couldn't figure out how to set it up. I have noticed every once in a while my system seems to be running loudly though. Any suggestions on heat monitoring software for P4 XP? Oh yeah... what is PSU? power supply???

Yes, the PSU is your Power Supply Unit.
When a problem occurs, best to look at the last thing you changed. It is a bit strange that you noticed the problem seemed to begin with the new PSU.
I would suggest doing a GOOGLE (http://www.google.com) search using something like Computer Temperature Monitoring.
You might want to also try pulling the case cover and use a fan to "gently" blow on the system and see if that helps.

Ok thanks... but i meant UPS as in uninterruptible power supply not PSU, i dunno if that changes anything or not. thanks for the help
Are you sure that the UPS you have can handle your machine?
If your computer has a 400W power supply the UPS should be rated to handle at least that amount...

Yeah the computer only has a 300w power supply and the UPS can handle 450. all i have connected to it is the monitor and tower.

in winXP this "spontaneous random reboot" is called a "mini-dump".
this is XP's way of saying you have a system configuration (most likely hardware)error.
