Second HP "All In One Printer" in three years. Moderate use. Now trying to decide if it worth it to have it looked at or dump it and buy something else. The All in one is pretty cool to be able to scan and print pics and such, however am left wondering if multifunction printers have multi problems that can go wrong with them.

This model is the psc 2110, seems that perhaps there is a hardeware issue. Powers up fine then goes into a series of clicking noises, maybe four quick clicks, quick pause , then clicks again. Does this for a few minutes then goes quiet and light flashes on and off. Almost sounds as if it is trying to print something, and a cog of some sort is making the clicking noise. I have checked for jammed paper both front and back.

I have done a reset, as well as reinstalled the software, but to no avail. Do the symptoms sound at all familiar to anyone?

Driving me insane...

You broke a cheap plastic gear that moves the paper......

Call HP and ask how much to fix it. Price a new one and then decide.....

Is it doing this at all when the scanner light is make its preliminary passes under the glass as it warms up?

You may also find that the plastic stop/release is out of place.

The print head isn't able to move across the carriage completely.
Check the HP site for trouble shooting tips on it.

I raised the lid so that I could observe the scanner light as it warmed up. When you mentioned preliminary pass I figured the scanner light would travel all the way across the scan plane and back. It doesn't, instead it just moves an inch or so and back. Hopefully that is normal.

After the initial warmup everything seemed to settle in place as usual, and with no clicking noises this time. (could be an intermitent thing with the clicking noise, or that I reset printer and left unplugged overnight) I did try a black and white copy with a document placed over the scanner and it worked, no problem. I then tried to print a document in my pc and the printer timed out.

So I am going to reset printer yet again, reinstall software, and double check my usb connection.

Also when I tried a print report directly from the printer it indicated that it went into print report mode but nothing happened. 15 minutes later still no report..

Thanks for your interest, anything you can think of will be greatly appreciated

Hopefully, it is just a software issue...

I would do as you mentioned and reinstall the software. If they have a removal program I would do that first. Sometimes the removal for the printers is not found under Add/Remove Programs, but rather from Start>Programs>(Printer Program)>Uninstall...

If it will let you take it out in SAFEMODE I would certainly do that...shutdown, reboot and reinstall

If you are menioning about a grinding noise its a mechanical failure, nothing much can be done abt it, try a partial reset and a semi full reset, if it's printing the self test page, then there's no problem with the printer, i mean after it warms up, but if it dosen't print from any doc from ur computer, try refreshing the spooler.. it should workk fine, by the way the PSC 2110 are petty old model AIO's without fax, u have used it much so call up HP and ask them for a trade in trade up. Stick to HP, HP aio's are damm good.
