First off, I DID search the forums. Found 2 'solutions' ... those 2 solutions did not work.

Along the same lines as those 2 posts I found:

I started my computer earlier, did my daily stuff.

Put a DVD(movie) in and the little 'What do you want to use with this' dialog did not pop up. I went to My Computer, and noticed the CD/DVD drive wasn't listed. Checked Device Manager and saw the yellow "!" on both.

Uninstalled/restarted. They were found but still not working.

Deleted regsitry keys (Which I found a guide here and on microsoft), so I did. Did not work. I couldn't delete the MAIN folder(registry), but it deleted the 0000 and 0001 folders.

Restarted again, those folders were added back but still doesn't work.

Any idea?

CD/DVD drives not being found
i assume you have 2 drives involved on the secondary ide controller.

One of them may be malfunctioning and causing the other to not be recognised or functional as well. Therefore try connecting only one at a time. If one works and the other does not, you have your answer.

If that does not work, you could try either of them on the primary ide controller as slave to your C: drive. If they work there, try deleting the secondary ide controller in Device Manager, then upon reboot, go into BIOS instead. Force a rediscovery of peripherals by setting ESCD to manual (It will automatically put itself back to auto on the next boot). This would be done after reattaching one or both of the drives onto secondary ide.

Trying all this also freshens the connections of the cables so it is possible everything will return to normal and the real reason or problem may elude us. But if that is what happens, would you care? ;)
