I have recently started experiencing severe startup and stability problems with my computer, despite no hardware changes having been done for the past 4 months. The system causing me grief consists of the following components:

Abit BE6-II RAID Motherboard
Intel PIII 866 MHz (Slot-1)
256 Mb SDRAM (2 x 128 Mb)
Creative GeForce 1 32 Mb RAM
IDE DVD ROM
IDE CD Burner
ATA100 Hard Drive on ATA66 Connector
235 W Power Supply
Windows XP Professional

One morning, the computer wouldn't boot at all, displaying LED lights and powering up the fan, but not even displaying video BIOS. I tried the RAM and video card on another computer, and they both checked out OK. I also tried switching to a 300 W Power Supply, but that did nothing. Then, all of a sudden, the computer worked again for a couple of times, before reverting to the same sorry state. I tried switching the PIII for an old PII, and that seemed to work for a while, except that the computer would now automatically reboot 7-8 times in sequence when reaching the XP splash screen before finally managing to complete the boot process. Switching back to the PIII, I found that the system would now boot, but rebooted itself inexplicably after a couple of minutes. I am at a loss for what to do next. Any suggestions?

I would, only I can't get my computer up and running at the present. One of the times I actually managed to boot up the thing, I ran Norton Antivirus and got no results. Also, the fact that switching processors temporarily improved conditions makes this seem like a hardware problem. Only thing left to check out now is the motherboard, which I will hopefully get around to in the next few days. Thanks, anyway.
