Hi, I have a sony crx175a1 CDRW and its about 3 months old. Yesterday I turned on my computer like I do everyday and something odd happens...the cd tray opens and remains opened even when I push it back in...it pops right out again!?!? I tried switching the writer with one of my other computers and theres nothing wrong with either...when i switch back to the sony...it pops out again. What could possibly be the problem?

If this were a liteon drive and you had just upgraded the firmware I'd say that is what it may be, especially if it were connected to a VIA board....but it is a Sony.

Do you have a VIA chipset motherboard by any chance?

Certain Liteon drives at certain firmware revisions have a problem with the tray not staying closed, seems to be worse on VIA boards, supposedly the latest releases of the firmware fix the problem. The problem seems to be the way the VIA chipset handles power changes (on/off)...

So have you made any hardware changes? Updated the BIOS of the motherboard? Changed OS?

Also if the drive is that new should still be under warranty, that might be an option...
