View Full Version : Foreign Language in Error windows.

It seems my small error windows are changing from English to German, at least I think it is German. Some of them no longer have English words at all while some have a line of English and a line below it in German.
What's up with that?

First thing is to run a complete virus scan...preferably more than one, if you can get on line then try one of the nline scans too.
Then check your language settings and make sure that they haven't been changed.

You've installed something that has a german version of a DLL.
If you check the "properties" of a DLL in the system32 folder. You'll notice the "version" tab has a "language" field. Most should say english but I bet one of yours says german.
Sorry, I can't help you track down which one.

Hi Ghost_Hacker,
Thanks for the quick return info.
I have checked all the DLL's that were "modified" this year and could only
find a couple that were not English. They were associated with my CLONECD program but the language said "neutral" not German. Although, CloneCD is a German product, I believe ~ Hmmmm! I wonder!
I have run a few virus scans [NAV] with the latest definitions in the past month or so and nothing was found.
The only real pain this is is when all the words are in German but then most error msgs are redundant anyway. I just don't like the idea of "something" doing this to my PC without my OK.
Thankx again...

Hi MJC,
Thanks for the return info!
I have done a number of virus scans since I first noticed this "thing." All scans were with the latest definitions from NAV.
I checked the "language support" and there are no other languages on my PC.
I don't think this is a virus, it is just a screwup somehow. I checked all the .DLLs that were modified this year and only found 3 that didn't say English under the language version. Those 3 stated "neutral" but they were from a German [I think] company. They are from my CloneCD program. Hmmmmm! I wonder!
Any more ideas?
Thanks again,
Jon Marc

You might grap a demo hex editor from http://www.ultraedit.com/ and open the DLL with it. You can then search the dll for the error message.
