View Full Version : constant beeping
I have an old pc that had issues with the power button. It finally would not turn off unless you unplugged it. Usually you can hold the power button in and it will eve  ntually power off. It doesn't. I thought I could just put everything in another case and all would be fine. It still has a constant beeping when I turn it on. What do I do now?

Aloha jsb and welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif
If this an old machine, you will likely find that it is not worth the cost of repairing.
Depending on what motherboard/BIOS it has, the beeping code would tell us what the problem is. Do you happen to know what BIOS you have? Is the beeping a consistent beep or is there a defining pattern (2 long beeps, 1 short, etc... )?
I noticed when I took everything out of the old case there were none of the screws that lift the motherboard off the case. There were raised spots where the screws went. I didn't have any of the gold screws to lift the motherboard off the new case so I used silver. That was the only thing I could think of that might cause the problem. I finally found the gold screws I needed and it all worked great. I assume there was a short somewhere. Thanks.
