I am operating a Pentium 1.4, 256m, 40g, w/firwire. The trouble I have is during operation the computer just sits there, nothing going on at all. This will happen when on the net and when not. After waiting awhile with the little hour glass showing it will kick in. While playing a game it works fine for awhile but after a period of time it seems as if it gets tired and just slows down. Can you help? Thanks http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hey doc, when was the last time you cleared Temp folders, cache, cookies,Run scandisk and de-frag?What do you have constantly running in the back ground?

Do you know what chipset you have in that board and what type ram?

Thanks for the reply YODA74. I clear my temp files almost daily. Certainly 3 times a week. I have defraged 2 weeks ago. Run scandisk weekly. I try to clean out the cache files and clear cookies. However, at certain times it will just sit there loading or doing something and finally, after sometimes 2 minutes or so it will load whatever I'm working with or surfing and go on. It will operate just fine for a time but after a certain period it just like goes to sleep. Thanks again for the help.pastorc

hi,

three things:

1) did I become invisable when I wasn't looking?

2) what OS you running?\

3) you didn't answer yoda's question on what background programs you have running.

Thanks for the reply. I am using W98. The only thing I know that would be running in the background is Norton Anti-virus and one screen saver and one background picture.
It seems that after I use the computer on or off the net it will begin to slow down and then hang up for minutes at a time.
Example: I have a card game I play called 40 thieves. When I boot and start to play it is as fast as it can be and then after a while it will begin to slow down, act funny and then just hang up.
I've tried to clear all temp files and catche files that I know how to.
Remember, you are talking to a novice. Thanks http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

heh heh - try turning Norton Anti-Virus off and testing this.

Also, is your machine a laptop?
