hi
last night my cdwriter stopped making cd copy of any kind with the message cdwr was not detected, but it is working ok for other application, and it is not listed under device manager.
also trying to install any application like NAV2002 from cd-rom or cdwr, i get the message setup.exe is missing.
windows 98se load very slow,i tried to re-install it , it hangs up at 98% for long long time with no luck.
what can i do now?
any help will be appreciated

Make sure all of the CD-RW drive's cables are securely inserted.
If they're ok, the the drive or its controller may be defective.
Try the drive on another system. If it works ok there, then the controller may be bad. Do any problems show up in Dev. Mgr. for the secondary IDE controller?
If the same problem happens on the other system, then the drive is bad.
Did you try reformatting the HD and reinstalling Windows?

Also, try uninstalling and reinstalling the CD-RW drive's software.

thanks for your reply.
the cables are ok,if i insert cd in both cd-rom & cdwriter cd work fine, but i cant make a cd copy it say cdwriter was not detected.
in safe mode i can see both CDS listed in device manager, but in normal mode not listed.
Even under hdisk controller 1,2 nothing there.
the problem is that i cant re-install win98se, it load to 98% and stops for long long time.in msconfig and autoexec.bat i see 10-12
device =\cd.....cd
any new idea?
thank you & have a great weekend

Did you reformat the hard drive before reinstalling Windows?
