I have a Gigabyte mobo GA6WMMC7 E1., with a intel celeron 333mhz CPU and
128 ram. I keep getting the following message;
CMOS Checksum error - Defaults loaded
Warning CPU has been changed. Please enter CPU Speed CMOS Setup and
remember to save before exit, and I getting a continuous beeping sound.
I have done the following troubleshooting;
I have held down the del or F1 key while the memory is booting. It does
nothing. It eventually goes to the error message.
I have cleared the cmos jumper setting and will still get the message.
I have used different CPU'S 700 mhz and 1 ghz and still get the same message. I have tried to boot with a floppy, nothing.
It recognizes all the devices at boot up but it will not let me go into the CMOS setup if freezes. I got this as a used mobo. Do you think it's a dead cause and I should give up on the mobo. By the way I have used these devices with another mobo and they work fine.

Help!!!!!

Try changing the battery...the process of switching between having the data stored in CMOS and the data stored on the FLASH ROM is ongoing, some motherboards store still store it in CMOS, so the battery is needed for more than just the clock. Also see if you can find the manual for it...there may be jumpers for things like FSB and CPU settings.

While booting does it say "Hit x key to enter setup"...if not you can also try <f2>, <ctrl><alt><enter> or on of several other key combinations....

Have you run a virus scan?? a couple of different one not sure which one you have but here is a free one to try (that way you have a second opinion) as to being clean or not??
