When I restart my computer my monitor displays through boot up and all the way up until the point where it switches from the big windows xp logo to your actual desktop. When it goes to the actual desktop the monitor goes black but the computer keeps running. I plugged my monitor into another computer and it works. I also plugged another monitor into my tower and that didn't work. Does this make sense that if my monitor is messed up that it displays everything through boot up and then goes black, or does this sound like a video card or even a virus problem??? Very Confused p.s. the computer is not even two years old but the monitor is about 6.

you may have your resolution set to a mode that the monitor does not support. try and boot into safe mode set the video resolution to 640x480 and restart the computer. if you are running xp set video properties to apply changes without restart. then increase resolution until screen goes blank again then wait 15 seconds and it will revert to the last good setting. hope that helps.

Excellent advice...

If this route is not effective, your video drivers might be corrupted and need to be reinstalled...

That sounds great but I have been using the same monitor and tower for the last year and this problem just came out of nowhere.

Hehe...these are computers were talking about here! :D The BIOS contains a very basic set of video drivers and once Windoze loads it transfers control to the more sophisticated video drivers...

Sometimes stuff just goes haywire. When you think of the thousands and thousands of files that are loaded every time we boot up a machine...it really is a wonder we don't have more problems...

I would follow the advice above and if no joy, then I would remove and reinstall the video drivers that came with the motherboard if you have on board video, or the supplied video card drivers...
