Hi,

I am new to the forum, so first I would like to say hello, there seems to be a lot of people, a lot cleverer than me here, so I am hoping I have come to the right place.

I have recently got a hard drive off ebay, its a travelstar, and small capacity, 6.4 gig, model dada-26480.

My problem is, when I plug it into my laptop, Campaq Armada 7400, as soon as I power it up, it makes a siren, (nee-naw) type noise. the noise is certainly coming from the hard drive, then it tells me I have a drive controller error.

I have tried booting from a cd, but no joy, It will not boot from cd, all I get is the siren and the drive error.

Any help would be good.

Thanks in advance

Chaos

Sounds like a dead drive to me ( I have heard drives do that). Time to see if the shipper will make an adjustment.

Yep, HDD is DOA. Hopefully it was an insured shipment. Otherwise, PrntRhd has the right idea. Contact the seller and see what happens.

Cheers guys, I did think that, but the noise threw me.

Never heard it before.
