Recently I changed my mobo to a new gigabyte GA-7VTXH+ and new 2x256MB DDR Ram and AMD 1700 xp cpu, I installed the windows 2000 and Windows xp but all the time the mouse cursor goes out when I connect the cd writer to the IDE 2 interface, and not possible to brings it back even by unpluging the cd writer from IDE 2, it means the windows will not detect the mouse again, and when I checked the mouse property in control panel for driver detail there was nothing at there, the only way to bring it back is to reinstall the windows and not possible by add/remove hardware.
I replaced that serial mouse with a PS2 mouse and the problem solved.
Is it any thing wrong with IDE 2 and serial port in this new mobo?
has any body such problem?
thanks to any body that answer to my questions.

HiSharifat,
Welcome.

I have run into the very same problem you report once with an older computer. When installing the cd burner the serial mouse stopped working. As simple and inexpensive it is to use another mouse, I never gave it another thought. But I am curious to other replies as to if the serial port will ever be usable again as long as the burner has some sort of conflict with the serial port.

My question to you is: You're using an ancient style serial mouse with a brand new motherboard? Why?

Hi
Thanks for reply, I agree with you that serial port and serial mouse are an old technology of pc industry but still in use, and realy i bought this serial mouse recently and it is newer that my PS2 mouse, sure the problem easily solved by replacing the mouse( the cheapest part of a PC) but technically I'm curious like you about the relation between serial port and IDE interface.
thanks

Open up the device manager and check the address of both the serial port and the ide controller.
You may find they are on the same address or very close.

If it is the address conflict.
Go into your bios and set the serial port to another address
You should have at least 3 or 4 options to use.
Also check the Bios for PnP OS = NO
If it is set to yes windows will attempt to control the bios settings and Plug and Pray Just doesn’t work very well

Hi
Thanks for advice.
This is device manager info.
------------------------------
IDE 1
------
I/O Add. 01F0-01F7
03F6-03F6
IRQ 14
------------------------------
IDE 2
------
I/O Add. 0170-0177
0376-0376
IRQ 15
------------------------------
Com1
-----
I/O Add. 03F8-03FF
IRQ 04
------------------------------
Com2
-----
I/O Add. 02F8-02FF
IRQ 03
------------------------------
Then seems Add. conflict isn't the problem.
