Hi I just bought a Seagate 160 gig HD and installed it last night, I used the discwizard that came with it to partition & format. Because I want to use the new drive as master and old one as slave I also had discwizard copy files from my old drive to the new one then changed the jumpers, everything seams to be working just fine. My question is, C drive (new HD) is huge now, but still doesn't show full capacity it shows 149 total space, is this normal, and is it ok to have C that big?
Also my other HD that I copied (old C) is it safe to delete files and programs off of it or perhaps even format it once I know the new drive & all my files & programs are working properly?

Thank you, Dan

160GB (binary) = 149GB (computerese)

The conversion factor is 1.024^3 = 1.074

It's just two different ways of counting the same number of bytes so the answer is that it is normal even if it is a bit confusing.

Should certainly be safe to delete/format - but if you have really important data back it up onto removable media as additional security.

Ok Paul`s sorted that, makes sence, good thinking batman.

You will lose a gig or 2 when you make the partition.

What OS do you have ?

Boot into BIOS and check hard drive size their.

When you used the discwizard to partition/format what file type did you use - FAT, NTFS ?

Some people have the c:\ drive as one, others make two, three or four partitions for My Docs, Program files, games. if the hard drive fails it doesn`t matter how many partitions you have, backing up your stuff is best way.
I have six partitions on my backup drive and my c:\ as one.
