I bought this ATI All in wonder 9000 pro (64 mb ddr) a couple of weeks ago second hand. It installed no problem (latest catalyst drivers from ati website) and all was working fine, including capture etc.

The problem is the screen intermittantly becomes garbled in win 98, usually when scrolling up and down through images (from digi camera). The screen disrupts with small horizontal lines through the screen. When I switch back to the desktop the icons appear to be jerky (vibrating) and fuzzy.

The problem disapears for a while when I re-boot but can re-appear at any time (can be up to a couple of hours).

The fan on the card is spinning and there's no sign of any damage. The monitor is fine and has worked at same res with previous card.

Any ideas?

Spec: AMD Duron 1300, MSI 6382 m'board, 398 DDR (266) ram, 40 gb hd

Welcome to the PC Guide Forums!! :D

If everything else was previously working fine before the new addition, then I'm afraid that R 9000 is going bad. Whether it's the RAMDAC or one or more of the RAM chips, I'm not certain yet (leaning towards RAMDAC) but something is not right. As a last resort, you can put more air running over it by opening the side and having a house fan blowing in to see if the poor thing is overheating, otherwise it's probably dying.

See if it's still under warranty and get back to us.

Thanks for the welcome! And thanks for the speedy reply.

I dont have any warranty unfortunatly as I bought it second hand.

I tried it in another PC last night (P3 500, 128 mb) and the original problem didnt seem to occur. Although when I loaded up a game (Rogue squadron 3D) there seemed to be ghosting of text. Almost like two layers of the same text over the top of each other, the second slightly above and to the right.

The second Pc is in the garage so it is a little colder which might have helped with the original problem.

Could the text prob be linked to the original one?

Thanks again. Stu
