In Despair!

Help! I've recently added a new 40gb 7200 hard disk, second user CD-Rom drive and a 3.5" floppy drive to a mother board & chip I had given me. I've put it all together, switched it on & got nothing but error messages. I know the mother board, chip & floppy drive work.

These are the messages I got:

Primary master hard disk fail
Primary slave hard disk fail
Floppy disk(s) fail (40)

I disconnected the CD-Rom drive, hooked the hard drive in a different way, then switched on again. I lost the first fail message, but still get the other 2. I tried with another floppy drive which I know works & got the same. If it's not the cable, does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be wrong? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif

Start with the basics
Check the Bios drive settings. Use Autodetect if Available
Connect the HDD to the primary ide controller connection on the mother board
Check the cable pin1 to drive and mother board pin 1 connection.. ( Both Hard drive and Floppy)
*Note the pin 1 on the floppy is normally nearest the power plug connector**
Connect the drives to the last connector on the cable (Both HDD and Floppy)
Check the Master slave setting on the hard drive
