My laptop fell on my toe (practically broke it) but I had some wine in a glass and it seeped a little bit on the screen. The keyboard is fine. I was able to save some stuff before the screen is now just bright. I took it into BestBuy. I still have two years left on my warranty, but that's apparently no good anymore. They said it would cost 600 or more to replace the screen. It's an eMachine bought 2/04. It doesn't have a wireless card either...........so
I'm wondering if it's worth it to send it in to get repaired; and if so, would you send it in to a store like that or just go through a smaller computer repair place. Sometimes with those big chains I wonder about getting royally ripped off. I know it happens anywhere, but I don't want to have to fork over $mula if I don't have to. And I didn't want to buy a new 'puter, but :( oh, well. Got any ideas on my dilemma or feedback would be appreciated.

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif!!!
For $600 you could almost get another laptop!
Is there just a certain area of the screen that's messed up or is it the whole screen? Please elaborate some more on the whole situation. Maybe it will come out of it after a few days or with a cleaning?
I would look on eBay to see if any screens are available or search for a better repair option than going through 'WorstBuy'...
What kind of wine? What a waste of perfectly good vino.. ;)

My recommendation? Keep in mind, this is just my very humble opinion but... DO NOT SPEND THAT KIND OF MONEY REPAIRING AN eMACHINE.
There, I've said it. I feel better.
All they wil likely do is remove/replace the display. You get to hope that it works perfectly. AND anyway, like FTT said, you can almost get a new laptop for that. Actually, you can.
Oh...hope it wasn't a Merlot :p

Well, it was Cabernet, Robert Mondavi, by the way. :p
As far as the screen, I booted it up this morning as was able to save some last-minute stuff. But now, the screen is completely gray. I can
hear that it's fully booted because the sound of it when it's up and ready to go. But the screen is now gray. I thought it might have dried up. You can see in the top left corner shows water spots. It seeped in the top corner only, but now there's nothing. I wish I new how to clean it.
I saw a Toshiba for 800 with a wireless. That's probably the cost of replacing this year and a half computer. Hmmm.
I think I will check out eBay, though. See, two heads are better than one :D

If you get a new one don't throw out the old one. Hook up a desktop monitor to it and use it for as a desktop computer at home. Also a good way to save/transfer files.
Edit- oops it just occurred to me it would probably be impossible to configure the second monitor without being able to see the laptop screen.
