I wasn't sure where to post this, but while I'm in the middle of most of my games on my PC, I get this beep that comes through the speakers. Not sure what it is, and when I go back to the desktop, there's no error msg or anything. Sometimes it happens once other times it happens more than once several minutes apart.
Here's my setup:
Asus K8N MB(With Asus Probe Software installed)
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ w/ factory heatsink and fan
Thermaltake Xaser 480W PS(without the fan control connected)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
2G of RAM
80G 8MB cache Western Digital HD
Thermaltake Tsunami Dream case
Running Windows XP Pro

Someone said that it might be reaching a temp threshold....but, when I check the Asus Probe, it says(during game) that my temp is usually around 42C/107F...this isn't too high is it? My case has ample circulation.
Any ideas?

Are these sounds coming from your external speakers?
Or from the PC's own small internal speaker?

If from the external speakers:
Are you aware that windows can be configured to play certain sounds when certain "events" take place?
Go to "Control Panel->Sounds" to view these.
I have mine set to give a "bloop" when any program opens, and a "whoosh" when any program closes.
Could this be happening within your game?
Is the game itself perhaps configured to make certain sounds at certain events?

Thanks Sylvander, it's coming from external speakers/headphones. And the sound of the "beep" is more like you said above, "bloop". I never hear the "whoosh" sound. I'll take a look there in the settings. Thanks...If anyone else has anymore comments, I will gladly accept them. I hope Sylvander's suggestions help.

Edit: I went into control panel and I identified which sound is occurring...it's the "Default Beep"....hopefully this will help narrow it down.

"I never hear the "whoosh" sound"
I wouldn't expect you to.
I had to copy a wave file for that sound from a game and allocate it to the "Close Program" event.
Unless you did the same, or the game came preconfigured to play THAT sound, then you wouldn't hear it.

"it's the "Default Beep""
Ahhhh, now that's interesting. The "Default Sound" is special. It is played whenever you try to do something that cannot be done.
It could be almost anything; like hitting a key on the keyboard [whose function is not available for some reason], or clicking on something in the GUI that is not functional at that moment.
To my "Default Sound" I allocated a wave file from a game that says "Leave me alone" in a high pitched voice.
Gives people using my PC a bit of a shock when they hear that, but I thought it appropriate.
Another one I allocated was the voice of a very young girl saying "EMAIL" whenever email arrives.
Had to edit that file to cut it down from "you have email", or some such.

My computer does that sometimes with particular games. I am pretty sure it is just me hitting to many or the wrong keys at the same time while playing. When the action gets really fast paced I tend to hit a lot of keys at once by accident. It seems to happen when I am playing a game the uses the Control and Alt keys a lot.
