Pentium IV 2+GHz

The PC gets hung up after boot sequence, and just displays a blank screen or a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner.

I first tried booting in safe mode and last known good congif to no avail.
Safe mode would start to load and hang, and last known good config would just hang after boot sequence.

I tried reloading the OS (XP Home). The formatting sequence took entirely too long. Afterwords the OS installed, but experienced errors. One error said someting about "MEDIA", I can't remember the other error but it said to contact my hardware vendor.

After reformatting an reinsatlling OS, I was back at the ol' drawing board.
I still had the same problem.

I swapped the HD with a HD that was running XP Home.
This HD experienced the same issue.

I swapped out the power supply, and it made no difference.

I tried running partition magic from floppy in an attempt to reformat drive.
Partition magic hung, and I wasn't able to reformat.

I also had strange problems when trying to install the OS.
I had to chage my boot sequence.
It was set up as follows:
#1 removable, #2 CD ROM #3 HDD #4 LAN
I couldn't load jack in this config. The only way I was able to actually get the OS disc running was to change boot sequence to
#1 CD ROM #2 CD ROM #3 CD ROM #4 CD ROM.
This config read OS disc, but I had problems described above.

oh joy....
What do you think guys???

I swapped the HD with a HD that was running XP Home.Swapping harddrives with another computer's personally configured operating system is definitely not advisable...

However, I would suggest that you barebones boot the system...unplug everything except RAM, Video, monitor, and keyboard...

See if you can make it through POST...if successful, I would then add the floppy drive (assuming you have one) and run Memtest86...

If everything is hunky dory I would then add the harddrive and run the harddrive diagnostics from floppy which can be downloaded from the manufacturer's web site...

If still in the pink, I would then begin to add one device at a time...

[edit] If for some reason it doesn't make it through POST...pull the motherboard from the case and try from a non-conductive surface...e.g., cardboard on a table
