I have done a clean install with win98 on my emonster 600. Everthing works fine except the sound. No sound is coming out of the system. The sound card seem to be "Crystal CS4281" for which I had installed drivers from driverguide.com. (I dont have the original CD's that came with the box.) I did open up the system, but on the inside it looked like an integrated sound system to the mobo, which was confusing.. very likely my pc ignorance..

Some relevant details:

1) Control Panel / System Properties / Device Manager / Sound, video and Game Controllers - shows "Crystal CS4281 PCI Audio". Everything looks normal here

2) Control Panel / System Properties / Device Manager / Other Devices / PCI Communication device - shows a Yellow question mark. "Properties" here show "Driver not installed". I tried to re-install the driver from the Microsoft site "direct.b1", it goes thru the cycle, but doesn't install the driver properly.

Any help to fix my "sound problem" will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome to the PC Guide Forums!! :D

Cirrus Logic (the manufacturer of the old Crystal audio chips) no longer provides ongoing support for your sound device. However, their website does list several generic audio drivers (http://www.cirrus.com/en/support/drivers/audio/OS18.html) and yours is on the list. You might want to try that out next.
