Hey guys, computers acting up, rejecting majority of USB devices. I say 'majority' because it rejects my 64mb USB key, and a few Ipods. However, it accepts my 128mb MP3 USB and a friend's Ipod. It also rejects my Seagate Barracuda 250Gb 7200 8Mb cache Hard Disk which has a housing via IDE to USB. The computer either freezes in windows or it restarts.

Tried a few things such as taking out both the DVD and DVD burner with no luck. Done the formatting recently, and have Windows 2000 Service pack 4 with all critical updates installed.

Some other info you guys might need are: AMD Athlon 2000, Asus A7V8X, 512 DDR RAM, Seagate Barracuda 250Gb 7200 8Mb cache Hard Disk (USB), Seagate 80Gb, Quantam Fireball 15Gb, Geforce 4 4200 Ti, Philips 109B4

Welcome tohttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!

A few things come to mind...I would suggest running Memtest 86 and also your booting harddrive's diagnostics. These can be downloaded from the manufacturer's web site.

You have reformatted and reinstalled Win2000?

Are you running any temp monitoring?

ya i would try that. If that doesn't work make sure your usb port is firmly connected. Sometimes they come loose.

Although USB "appears" to be generic, many devices need to have their own specific USB drivers installed to operate. I'm wondering if the devices you are having difficulty with fall into this category?? Or, that they may also need specific software programs to function.

For example, my Olympus digital camera is recognized when I plug it in, but I need Camedia to extract images...

Were the devices you mention all working at some previous time with the same Operating System?
