I have an MU440ex motherboard bought second hand recently on ebay. When booting, the system hangs after detecting the drives. It is also impossible to enter the bios setup before the system hangs. Memory seems to be detected OK and a floppy drive + tested boot disk is connected. Anyone with any suggestions?

Try going without the hard drives connected...it sounds like the IDE channels are set to a "user" configuration and the drives that are connected are different from the ones that are configured. You could also remove the battery or use the "clear CMOS" jumper to reset to factory defaults.

You can try booting with keyboard unplugged

Boot should stop and give you directions to CMOS - plug back in keyboard and press whatever key was recommended to go to CMOS

Then you can check settings like MJ suggests
